Commitments and Sports Day
“I have never tried that before, so I think I should definitely be able to do that.” (Pippi Longstocking, Astrid Lindgren) is an attitude with which students in the Dutch Stream enter the classroom every morning. Every day we confront our students with new challenges; we as ask them to do something just a little more difficult or complex than before, or even to do new and unknown tasks.
On sports day, we saw an amazing commitment of our youngest student. At school everything is new to him; a sports day was an unknown phenomenon. “Who will accompany me,” he asked before he came to school, but as soon as he was on the field, his commitment was admirable. He kicked the ball and did not stop there. He took part in all the different activities and gave it his best.
At all levels our students are challenged and asked to make a commitment to try and do more and more comprehensive tasks. Before a student gives a presentation, he needs to be committed, well prepared and confident that he will finish the task and succeed. The students of the Dutch Stream and NCBIS are committed to be challenged and try the unknown. They most certainly can, and we congratulate them!
