Dutch Flemish Symposium on Citizenship
On Sunday, 12 of our finest orators and debaters in Year 9 and Year 10 spent the day at the Netherlands-Flemish Institute in Zamalek, to participate in an international seminar on “Children as current and future citizens”. We were treated to a series of short lectures on this important topic from renowned speakers from universities in Holland, as well as AUC, NGOs and other local institutions.
Following each presentation, our students and other audience members were invited to pose a series of questions to the speakers. Twice during the course of the day, our student panel took the floor, to lead the way for discussions on key points of interest that they had noted, as well as expressing their personal thoughts on matters relating to their role as young people in aspects of citizenship. The students spoke with confidence and passion in front of an audience of about 40 adults, and were a real credit to NCBIS. I would like to congratulate the following: Hamad Hashish, Eleftherios Armelinos, Mudathir Gadain, Yassin Khalifa, Kinsey Ali, Noon Ahmed, Nikolaos Chaitas, Farah Hegazy, Finley Mathe, Lana Elmanzalawi and Harleen Dhillon for their exceptional efforts during the course of this day.
