Knowledgeable in Primary

Knowledgeable by definition means being well informed and having understanding. Over the last few weeks in both mathematics and their unit of inquiry Year 5 have become more knowledgeable. When learning about fractions, decimals and percentages in mathematics, they reflected on their prior knowledge of fractions and were inquirers; gaining new understanding of decimals and percentages by independent research. In the unit of inquiry lesson, when discovering more about ancient civilisations the Year 5s used websites and books to find out about Mayans, Greeks, Romans, Aztecs, Mesopotamians and Native American Indians. As a result, they have started to realise that many modern day objects and ideas have their origins in the past. The whole year group will demonstrate what they have learned in their Celebration of Learning next week, in which they will test their parents’ knowledge in a quiz that they are now preparing. Who knows if the questions will be tricky enough to catch them out!!
