Year 2 Creativity
Curiosity and Creativity in Year 2
“Curiosity about life in all of its aspects, I think, is still the secret of great creative people” – Leo Burnett
In Year 2 we have been inquiring into the 3 R’s (Recycling, Reusing and Reducing). This unit has generated a lot of curiosity about the waste that humans produce. We began with a provocation, were the children had to sort the waste created by the Primary School in one day. This led the children to raise many important questions.
“How can we make so much rubbish?”
“Where does all the waste go?”
“How can we make less waste?”
“What happens to our rubbish?”
These questions and the children’s curiosity about waste drove our unit towards how we can reduce, reuse and recycle our everyday waste. At the end of the unit, the children were challenged to use their knowledge and creativity to design and make an outfit to be worn in assembly. The children had to be creative in how they reused everyday waste to create their specific costumes. To help them with their creativity we visited the A.P.E Centre, where we saw how people’s everyday waste had been transformed in many ways from rugs to jewelry.
Curiosity certainly inspired Year 2! See all our fantastic costumes.
