Year 2 Shape Detectives
Year Two have been inquiring into the connections between 2D and 3D shapes.
We first shared our previous knowledge of the properties of 2D shapes and looked at the statement ‘ All polygons have the same number of sides and corners.’ We used regular and irregular polygons to investigate and found out that the statement is true. We furthered our knowledge by then looking at the form of a 3D shape and asked the question are there any connections with 2D shapes? We looked at the characteristics and found out that 3D shapes have a different form. They have height, width and depth made up from faces, edges and not sides and vertices not points. We made the connection, however, that all 3D shapes are made from 2D shapes and then used this knowledge to make 3d shapes of our own.
