NCBIS is located within a secure walled campus, at the heart of the quiet residential suburb of New Cairo. We are located about a 25 minutes’ drive from the airport and about 40 minutes’ drive from the Nile riverside of Maadi. We are a very long way from the areas of conflict that you may have seen on the TV, and school life goes on with complete normality.
The school was originally located in Heliopolis, but in 1998 relocated to a new purpose built site. While the present school site can accommodate more students, the Board of Directors made a strategic decision to limit the school enrolment to 815 students in order to maintain a safe and spacious school environment.
The British Primary and Dutch stream share the main Primary building, housing 21 classrooms, a library resource centre and additional Learning Support bases. Separate to the main building is our Early Years area, with a shaded outdoor learning environment, including a large sandpit and splash pool.
The Secondary School occupies two buildings, one which accommodates the English, Humanities and Modern Foreign Language faculties; and the other which accommodates the library, ICT, Mathematics and Science faculties.
All rooms are fully air conditioned and the school has an excellent IT infrastructure with all classrooms in the school being networked with high speed wifi, as well as being equipped with interactive whiteboards. Across the school sets of iPads and Macbooks can be booked for class use, enhancing the ICT provision in our two libraries.
The professional development opportunities at NCBIS are outstanding, and it is something the school invests heavily in. At NCBIS we are lucky to have access to so much technology, my students love the iPads as well as using the iMacs in the library.
In a fourth building the school auditorium, Music, Drama and Art departments are housed. Our PE department is located next to the sports facilities. Our school sports facilities include a large grassed sports pitch, fitness centre, a heated learner pool and heated outdoor 6 lane 25m swimming pool, as well as a multi-purpose all weather court.
If you are a sports person there are ample opportunities to keep busy from playing in the ex-pat softball league, to numerous (inexpensive) professional golf courses and loads of pick up football games in Maadi where a majority of the expats live. Having been lucky enough to have taught at other schools in Cairo I can say NCBIS is a leader within Cairo with an exciting future ahead.
