In the Primary School, we have taken the UK National Curriculum for England and sequenced it into a series of subject-specific, comprehensive Scope & Sequence documents, which we teach through the pedagogy of the Primary Years Programme (PYP). The International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme is an international, transdisciplinary programme designed to foster the development of the whole child, including their social, physical, emotional and cultural needs as well as their all-important academic needs.

NCBIS received authorisation for the PYP in June 2012. As such, we are now a member of the IB World Schools. These are schools that share a common philosophy-a commitment to high quality, challenging international education. A philosophy that NCBIS believes is important for our pupils. Only schools seeking approval from or authorized by the IBO can offer any of its four academic programmes: The Primary Years Programme (PYP), The Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme (DP), or the Careers Programme (CP).

Information on the curriculum followed for all Year Groups are covered in our curriculum guides, which explain the specific units of inquiry your child will be studying in each year group and the key mathematical and language concepts covered. Information on our specialist subject programme is also included.

Year 6

We teach using six themes every year. Each year group from Year 2 covers the themes once a year to make up a well rounded, balanced curriculum. At the planning stage of each unit, we look at how we can enhance the unit based on teacher and student reflections from the previous years which gives us an ever-improving program that evolves with the needs and interest of our students.

We welcome questions and suggestions about our units of inquiry. We would love for you to get involved and help us develop our program even further. If you have ideas for experiences, trips, or activities that would fit with any particular unit please get in touch with us. You can reach us on Twitter: @NCBISPrimary
